...BUT IT WON'T BE A SLOUCH
First
Mercedes-Benz replaced its aging
GLK with the more modern-looking
GLC. Now we're getting two AMG versions this year: the
GLC63 we mentioned yesterday, and now this slightly less radical GLC43. The latter will debut at the
New York auto show, and the former expected later in the year.
Like most things AMG, the biggest change is found under the hood. Instead of the base GLC 300's 2.0-liter turbocharged I4, there's a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that produces a healthy 362 hp at 5,500 rpm and 384 lb-ft from 2,500 to 4,500 rpm. With the extra grunt, this baby ‘Benz will do 0-60 in only 4.8 seconds. The 9g-Tronic automatic transmission has been reworked to provide quicker shifts than the standard GLC, and it sends power to the standard 4matic all-wheel-drive system. Top speed is electronically limited at 155.
Scion will close out its auto show run in New York next week. Not long for this world, the brand will send off its tC coupe with the end-of-the-line Release Series 10.0. It comes in Barcelona red and ...
Also standard for the AMG GLC43 is the Ride Control sport suspension. Based on the GLC300’s Air Body Control, the air suspension responds to the different drive modes by firming or softening. Better braking comes from 14.2-inch front and 12.6-inch rear rotors, while set of 20-inch AMG five-spoke wheels rounds out the major upgrades from the base GLC.
We won’t know exactly how much the GLC43 will cost until we get closer to its late 2016 launch, but it's safe to expect a substantial premium over the base GLC300 4Matic's $42K base price.
